Qualifications: - Mexican citizen or long-term resident of Mexico familiar with local usage.
- At least five (5) years of experience in translating English and Spanish documents.
- Bachelor’s degree in Translation or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
- Advanced Professional Proficiency in English as demonstrated by Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE), Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English (Grade A), Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) Level C2, or equivalent.
- Professional certification by the American Translation Association or equivalent organization.
- The incumbent must possess native or near-native knowledge of both English and Spanish so as to be able to translate documents from English to Spanish and Spanish to English with correct syntax, grammar, idioms, and knowledge of American English and Mexican Spanish word usage.
- The incumbent must possess excellent verbal communication skills in both English and Spanish and must be capable of conversing fluently with U.S. government officials and visitors.
- Familiarity with one or more of the following: the Merida Initiative, Government of Mexico secretariats; law enforcement entities; correctional facilities; or the criminal justice system.
- Detail-oriented and able to complete assignments accurately on a tight deadline.
Duties: - The position is located in Mexico City, Mexico. Some travel to other locations in Mexico, United States or third Countries may be required.
- Translate speeches, correspondence, procurement requests, statements of work, grant proposals, social media postings, reports, quality assurance surveillance plans, and other documents from Spanish to English and English to Spanish, with attention to detail and correct syntax, spelling, grammar, capitalization and punctuation.
- Draft, edit, and proofread documents and communications in both Spanish and English.
- Provide oral interpretation services from Spanish to English and English to Spanish
- Assist with processing procurement requests, ordering supplies; and general business and accounting functions that require translation or linguistic assistance.
- Provide technical recommendations on improving translation services.
